Transport Facilities
VMCH & RI has engaged all efforts to guarantee relaxed commuting for students. VMCH & RI has established a transport system that is comfortable and easily accessible. The University buses to transport all students from and to all locations in and around Madurai. This helps day scholars and local residents reach college on time with comfort. The roads inside the campus are blacktopped and well laid with pedestrian walk facilities for easy commuting. Day scholars can park their vehicles after registering their vehicle number with the concerned parking in-charge. There is a huge parking space available close to various blocks. Hostellers can use bicycles to commute within the campus.
Student Crisis Response Guideline
- In the event of a specific student crisis, students should call or inform the warden
- If they are unable to reach the warden, the Dean should be notified.
- Events include, but are not limited to, injury/illness/hospitalization, psychiatric episodes (including attempted suicide), assault, disappearance, hostel disturbance, unprofessional behavior or death of a student.

House of Worship
VMCH & RI strongly believes in alma mater. With the ideology of members of VMCH & RI not being deprived of a place of peace and worship, there are religious places available for people from all walks of life. The church building is located adjacent to the college of allied health sciences. It is open all through the week. Every Wednesday from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm there will be a Fellowship for staff and faculty. There is a temple located near the main entrance to the Hospital campus. Open through the week. A mosque is located near the women’s nurses’ hostel. Open through the week.
Banks and ATMs
Indian overseas bank is located near the main entrance. There are three ATMs within the campus -near the IOB bank, inside the Main OPD foyer, and near the Pharmacy on the ground floor of the hospital.
Cafeteria
The cafeteria is available within the hospital premises, near the Library building, near the east gate of the hospital and Velammal Multi-cuisine restaurant at the exit gate of the hospital. • Any suggestions or complaints regarding food or timing can be brought to the notice of the cafeteria manager and the needful is done immediately.
Supermarket
A well-stocked supermarket set within the campus to cater to the needs of the hostellers as well as the patients and support staff works between 9 AM to 7 PM.
Campus Amenities
The campus is a self-sufficient enclave with black-topped, well-lit roads. Its facilities include Canteen, a Post Office, STD/ISD pay phones, Courier Service, a Book Store for all kinds of Text Books and Stationery, Copier facilities, even a Digital Photo Studio. Standby power generators are provided in the institute, hostels and the well-maintained gardens.
Laundry
A full-scale hygienic laundry is available for the convenience of both the hostelers as well as patients and support staff for their long-duration stay.
Beauty Salon
A modern unisex beauty salon is present adjoining the supermarket offering the basic services between 8 AM to 9 PM.
Auditorium
A technically sound state of art, fully air-conditioned auditorium with a seating capacity of 2500 audience with food courts and independent ample parking space is available for conducting various seminars and conferences.
The Staff-Student Health Services (SSHS)
The Staff-Student Health Services (SSHS) is open to all students enrolled at VMCH & RI & RI. SSHS is located in the medical OPD in the main hospital building. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Students should report to the Emergency Department if an urgent medical problem arises. One physician and two nurses are available during working hours. SSHS coordinates psychiatric care through the Student Personal Counseling Center. In compliance with the infection control policies of the Hospital Infection Control Committee, It is required that all students complete a student health form prior to attending their classes. This consists of medical history and up-to-date immunizations records. A physical exam performed by the student’s physician is mandatory.
Green Campus
VMCH & RI is a sustainable green campus. It is a plastic-free zone and there are strict rules framed and executed to enable the same. Everyone part of VMCH & RI is educated on conserving resources and contributing to society sensibly. All possible elements are recycled on the campus. Students also take part in green campus campaigns. The huge campus is maintained pollution-free to a great extent. Silence hours are followed throughout the campus to ensure serene and calm experience. Cleanliness day is observed once in a year to reward the active participants and encourage a clean environment. Orderly parking and civic rules inside the campus assures noise-free, chaotic free, peaceful ambiance.
Gym
It is very important to take care of one’s health and at VMCH & RI we believe that prevention is better than cure, that’s the reason VMCH & RI have established a well-equipped unisex gym with full-time trainers. At any given point of time around 150 guests can use the facility. The large gymnasium, fully equipped with modern resistance training equipment and an eminent trainer.
Dedicated digital library (Computer center)
VMCH & RI central library has an established digital library to gain access to a wide range of electronic resources available. The dedicated room has sufficient number of computers and seatings made to assure the joy and comfort of learning.
Audio Visual Room
There are audiovisual rooms acoustically designed to enable group study and presentations without disturbing the crowd in the library, following the library discipline.
Support Facilities
For a very nominal fees Photocopying, Printing and Scanning facilities are available inside the library. Jobs will be completed depending on the pending bulk of requests consequently adequate time should be given to the staff.
Personal Reading Room
To do justice to enhanced learning there are personal reading rooms designed with ergonomically configured furniture. These rooms enable a peaceful learning atmosphere and better learning outcomes. Personal textbooks and notebooks are permitted to be taken to this room.
Personal Belongings Room
To enjoy a hassle-free reading experience there is personal belongings room where one can leave all their personal belongings before getting inside the library. This facility is available during the library hours so that one can go inside hands-free.
Suggestion Box
Students are requested to drop their suggestions into the suggestion box kept at the entrance of the Library regarding Ways to improve the functioning of the library, Textbooks, and Journals which would enhance their academic endeavor and Facilities inside the library.
Community-oriented (Medical)
- These services are run under the guidance of the institution with a quantum of student volunteers
- Students are advised to volunteer
- Students can identify the area which they enjoy the most and volunteer for such service only.
- A merit certificate (which carries no academic credit) will be awarded to all those who put in a minimum of 200 hours of community service.
