Velammal College of Allied Health Science

VMCH&RI offer Teaching & training for undergraduate & postgraduate students of medicine, paramedical staff & students. Students of VMCH&RI are exposed to equip themselves by participating in various educational activities that include but not limited to bedside clinics, theory classes, symposia, journal clubs, CME programs and E-Journal publication, Dissertation and participation, and publication in journals and conferences, clinical meetings, mortality review meetings, and several other guest lectures. Students are practically trained as they have visits that are scheduled frequently with the expert clinicians, physicians, and technicians.

“MORGAGNI’S CLUB” The department of pathology hosts the Morgagni’s club in the department’s demo room once every month. The club takes responsibility for organizing intradepartmental – Slide discussions, Clinico-pathological correlation and interdepartmental discussion on difficult slides, Journal clubs, and CME programs. “THE PHYSIOLOGY CLUB” The Physiology club meets twice a month in the department’s seminar room. The club has lined a host of activities for the year such as community-based educational programs, student-organized CME, students initiated integrated teaching programs, educational debates, solving simulated clinical scenarios, the conduct of physiology exhibition for school students, yoga for lifestyle modification and student research activities. “BMBC” (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Club) The department of biochemistry hosts the “Biochemistry & Molecular Biology Club” which meets twice in a month in the department’s demo room. The club will organize activities through the year such as Discussions on subject related issues of public/patient interest, publicize recent advances and technological breakthroughs in the subjects, conduct research, facilitate and assist other students in planning research, create opportunities for hands-on training in advanced laboratory procedures, organize a symposium, guest lectures, and exhibition, create online discussion groups/ discussion boards, organize Quiz competitions, Contests and Institute awards for the achievers.

“NEWGEN CLUB” The Newgen club is organized by the Department of Anatomy and meets twice in a month in the department’s seminar room. The club organizes and conducts several programs such as CME, student seminars and role play in the subject, quiz programs, exhibitions for public awareness and coordinate and arrange guest lectures, For details contact the Department of Anatomy.

“JOHN SNOW CLUB” The “JOHN SNOW CLUB” is initiated by the Department of Community Medicine and meets twice a month in the department’s seminar room. The club is actively involved in updating the knowledge of students and faculty with recent advances and novel interventions in the field of public health. The club organizes CMEs, guest lectures, debates, quiz competitions, essay competitions regarding major public health challenges.

“KOCH’S CLUB” The Kochs club is organized by the Department of Microbiology and meets twice in a month in the department’s seminar room. Some of the main objectives of the club are to create awareness of infection control among health care workers and students of our institute, like prevention of hospital-acquired infection, the importance of vaccination. It also emphasizes the importance of environmental surveillance in critical care areas like operation theatre, ICU, Surveillance during any suspected outbreaks. They organize Guest lectures, CME, Seminars, Case discussion, and student seminars and journal reading.

Community-oriented (Medical)

  • These services are run under the guidance of the institution with a quantum of student volunteers
  • Students are advised to volunteer
  • Students can identify the area which they enjoy the most and volunteer for such service only.
  • A merit certificate (which carries no academic credit) will be awarded to all those who put in a minimum of 200 hours of community service.
