About VCET

In 1986,the seed of social consciousness was sown by Smt. Velammal in the mind of her son Shri M.V. Muthuramalingam, the Founder Chairman of the Velammal Educational Trust. The Velammal school began to germinate and blossom with theestablishment of Velammal Matriculation School in Chennai with 183 students and 13 staff members. Over the years, the school’s strength and reputation grew steadily. The increasing demand for more institutions led to the expansion of the Velammal Group of Institutions, whose name and achievements soon spread far and wide.
From a modest beginning in Mogappair, Chennai, the Velammal Group of Institutions has now extended its presence across the districts of Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Sivagangai, Madurai, Theni, Karur, Thiruvannamalai, Thanjavur, and Vellore in Tamil Nadu. Today, the group educates over one lakh students and employs around 12,000 staff members under one name "Velammal".
Velammal College of Engineering and Technology (VCET), established in the academic year 2007, is a distinguished self-financing, Institution affiliated to Anna University and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Over the years, VCET has emerged as a premier center of excellence, dedicated to nurturing talented minds and fostering innovation, research, and holistic development. With over 10 departments and programs across diverse disciplines, the college provides multidimensional training to make students industry-ready withthe curriculum, designed to meet industry demands.
VCET offers a dynamic academic environment with emphasison cutting-edge pedagogy, experiential learning, interdisciplinary research, equipping students with the skills and knowledge required to excel in a competitive global landscape.Research and development form the cornerstone of VCET’s academic ethos. The college has received research grants totaling 1,188 lakhs from prestigious agencies such as AICTE, DST, DRDO, MNRE, MSME, and ISRO, facilitating 58 innovative projects that contribute to technological advancement and societal benefit. The institution encourages students and faculty to engage in collaborative research, patent filing, and industry-academia partnerships, fostering a vibrant culture of inquiry and discovery.
