Governing Body

Composition: The Governing Body of Velammal College of Engineering and Technology is composed of many members, ensuring diverse representation from key stakeholders. The composition includes management representatives, with the Chairman or Director serving as the Chairperson. Two faculty members are nominated by the Principal based on seniority. Additional members comprise one educationist or industrialist nominated by the management, one nominee each from the UGC, the State Government (an academician not below the rank of Professor or an official from the Directorate/State Council of Higher Education), and the affiliating University. The Principal of the college serves as a permanent member.

Functions: Subject to the existing provisions in the bye-laws of the respective college and the rules laid down by the state government, the governing body of an autonomous college shall have the power to:

 Fix the fees and other charges payable by the students of the college on the recommendations of the Finance Committee.

 Institute scholarships, fellowships, studentships, medals, prizes, and certificates on the recommendations of the Academic Council.

 Approve the institution of new programmes of study leading to degrees and/or diplomas.

 Perform such other functions and institute committees as may be necessary and deemed fit for the proper development, and fulfil the objectives for which the college has been declared autonomous.
