Shelter and sustainable environment are the basic needs for all living beings. Civil Engineering takes pride in providing the basic needs and hence called the “Mother of all Engineering.” Civil Engineering is the backbone for almost all the infrastructural development. A country’s development is based on infrastructural facilities like buildings, basic amenities, transportation, communication and IT enabled services. Civil Engineers play a key role in developing and maintaining these systems. Rise in competition and increase in population lead to the necessity of sophisticated transport systems, high rise buildings, energy efficient systems etc. Hence a Civil Engineer has to equip himself with innovative thinking, modern technology and problem solving skills by keeping in mind the environmental sustainability.
