The Department of English plays a pivotal role in developing communication skills among students and others who desire to sharpen their capability. In addition to preparing B.E/B.Tech, students for Anna University examinations, an intensive and comprehensive approach is adopted for strengthening their language competency. Students are encouraged to do projects and also are motivated and trained to contribute to newspapers. The department has dedicated and well experienced staff members with expertise to offer various courses like BEC, TOEFL, IELTS and GRE. For effective language skills enhancement, language labs are put to use on a regular basis. There is a state of the art Audio-Visual Language Lab and also a Computer Based Language Lab. A rich resource of Video, Audio, Compact Disc collections on the art of English language teaching and learning remains an asset to the department.
Part time language enhancement courses are offered in Hindi and in other foreign languages like French, German and Japanese. On open to all basis, a three month course is being offered to hone English communication skills. Students have been motivated to participate in department association activities, national and international conferences, seminars, guest lectures, workshops and other such activities. Students get training in compering for any programme conducted in the college.
